After receiving guidance from Paul Meslé, a local painter, he attended classes at the Académie Ranson (1917–1919) in Paris. Along with Roland Oudot, Maurice Brianchon, Christian Caillard, Roger Limouse, and Raymond Legueult, he formed the group known as the Peintres de la réalité poétique. He was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts (1960).
