Marius Giuge Vallauris – 17-piece Bouillabaisse Set – Ceramic With Fish Motifs – Circa 1955

An important glazed ceramic bouillabaisse set created by Marius Giuge in Vallauris around 1950–1955. This set is one of the artist’s most characteristic works, designed entirely around the shape of a fish. It includes, notably, a spectacular zoomorphic soup tureen, serving dishes, plates, small bowls, and a gravy boat, all modeled in the same style. The ceramics feature an emerald green and turquoise glaze, accented with speckled and reticulated effects. Marius Giuge played a key role in the revival of Vallauris ceramics in the 1950s, blending functional objects, sculptural forms, and experiments with glazes. His bouillabaisse dinner service is one of his most recognizable designs; examples are held in museum collections, notably at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Each piece bears the stamp “Marius Giuge – Vallauris – France” on the base.
