Fragment Of A Late-gothic Tempera Painting From A Ceiling In Cremona
A splendid fragment of a late-Gothic ceiling from Cremona, made of painted poplar wood. The upper and lower panels depict the punishment of a vain woman (a harpy defecates on her head while she gazes at herself in a mirror, according to the iconography of Taddeo di Bartolo’s “Last Judgment” at the Collegiate Church of San Gimignano). The central panel is decorated with dragons and dolphins.
The panels have been cleaned and consolidated; the two lower panels show significant losses of paint.
