Louis XVI-era secretary desk in rosewood marquetry with a butterfly-wing design, set within amaranth frames bordered by friezes of intertwined ribbons crafted from ebony and citron wood.
Front sides with beveled edges featuring marquetry simulating fluting.
Beautiful gilded and chiseled bronze ornamentation.
Topped with a white Carrara marble.
Large drop-down panel revealing a compartment consisting of drawers and niches; the top, covered with a brown leather overlay, is adorned with a tone-on-tone frieze.
One drawer at the top, two doors beneath the drop-down panelopening onto a storage area with a shelf.
The piece is stamped “J*LAPIE” forJean Lapie, known as “le jeune” (born in 1734), a cabinetmaker in Paris who became a master on July 31,1762 and brother of Nicolas-Alexandre Lapie.
A very well-proportioned piece with beautiful marquetry colors.
