Senufo Sculpture - Motherhood - 80 Cm - Ivory Coast
This is a statue depicting a woman sitting on a stool and breastfeeding a newborn. The statue exhibits the characteristic features of Senufo sculpture: a form that gives the impression of the front anatomical features flowing forward and downward: the face has a very long muzzle projecting forward and downward
protruding ears with three horizontal scarifications near each corner of the mouth. These bilateral scarifications clearly evoke the primordial twin pair.
In very good overall condition, worm-eaten in places, with a few missing pieces, but superbly preserved for its age.
