The group depicts the goat Amalthea, the mythological nurse of the infant Jupiter, surrounded by a lively troop of putti: one rides the animal, others caress it and offer it flowers, while two hold aloft a swag of drapery forming a wide arc above the scene. The animal wears a floral garland in relief around its neck and horns. The composition, teeming with infant figures in vivacious, naturalistic poses, is typical of the Rococo taste revived by the manufactory in the second half of the nineteenth century.

The base bears the crowned N mark characteristic of the Capodimonte manufactory.

Condition report: Glaze with widespread craquelure and minor chips, particularly to the flowers and the extremities of the figures. Good overall condition, consistent with age.
