Lalique "the Faun" Statuette

Artist: Marc Lalique

A mythological-themed group sculpture in molded-pressed satin crystal titled “Le Faune.” Created by Marc Lalique in the 1960s, the work depicts a satyr and a nymph dancing among the vineyards. In Greek mythology, satyrs and nymphs were both part of the natural and spiritual world. Satyrs—half-man, half-beast—were known for drinking all day, playing musical instruments, and chasing nymphs. Nymphs were beautiful, feminine spirits of nature who inhabited the waters, forests, and mountains. Signed “Lalique France” on the base, height 14 cm. Reproduced in the Lalique catalog by Marie-Claude Lalique.
