Two Volumes Of *the Betrothed*, A Limited-edition Illustrated Edition From 1973

This magnificent art edition of Alessandro Manzoni’s *I Promessi Sposi*, published in 1973 by the prestigious publishing house TREC (Trattati ed Edizioni Pregiate), is a true masterpiece of 20th-century collector’s-edition publishing, with a print run of just 4,900 numbered copies. The work consists of two imposing volumes, whose exceptional craftsmanship immediately impresses thanks to the protective slipcases and the sumptuous editorial binding in fine dark brown leather, handcrafted by the renowned Milanese workshop Legatoria d’Arte Conti Borbone. The most famous and fascinating feature of this set is the front covers of the two volumes, embellished with a large embossed copper plate. These extraordinary high-relief sculptures bear the signature of the artist Lucovic Bronislav. The whole is crowned by five-ribbed spines decorated with titles and geometric friezes elegantly embossed in pure gold. This excellence in craftsmanship continues inside the two volumes, printed by the Vatican Polyglot Press on special uncut, hand-made paper produced specifically for this work by the historic Fratelli Magnani Paper Mill in Pescia. Accompanying the text is a superb collection of illustrations consisting of a total of 38 plates, in both color and black-and-white, based on drawings by the master of Italian realism Ernesto Treccani and printed on the presses of Luigi Maestri’s renowned art printing house in Milan
