Pastel "gathering Seaweed" By Albert Gouget

A superb pastel depicting the harvesting of seaweed on a Breton beach by Albert GOUGET, a painter born in Egypt in 1856 and who died in 1948. He is best known as a painter and pastel artist with a predilection for landscapes, notably those of the Camargue, Brittany, and Normandy. He exhibited regularly in Paris and in major cities in the south of France and was recognized as a leading master of pastel in his time. As for this work, it depicts, in the foreground, two women carrying sacks, while in the background, horses and other figures are busy gathering seaweed on the beach. The sky, with its superb colors, is particularly well rendered, and the light is rendered with great realism.
