Ernest Gabard : "fugit Amor"

For those who are not yet familiar with this artist from the Béarn region, it is worth notingthat this sculptor—who was briefly a student of Rodin—was also a painter, illustrator, andposter artist, created the archetype of the Béarnais, the famous Caddetou, which was adapted into statuettes—including a rare car mascot—one of the very first posters on the theme of aviation (Pau was the first aviation school), and countless sculptures, both religious and secular.
Mobilized during the Great War, the horrors he witnessed inspired him to create numerous pacifist-inspired war memorials, but his works also adorn fountains and churches.
Our group, which I named in reference to that of his illustrious master, depicts a couple in which the man tries in vain to hold back the woman as she runs away, like Orpheus trying to hold back Eurydice as she returns to there alm of the dead…
