Art Nouveau bust of a young woman, titled "Mignon," signed P. Mengin for Paul Eugène Mengin, 1853-1937. Metal bust with a silver patina. This piece also bears the Susse Frères foundry mark. Made in 1894, numbered 5 underneath. Paul-Eugène Mengin (1853-1937) Mengin was a highly renowned artist whose bronze and terracotta works are true collector's items. He studied under the sculptors Aimé Millet and Auguste Dumont at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1873 onwards and won numerous medals (Bronze Medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition). He was a master of elegant realism. He is particularly famous for his busts of prominent figures (such as Claude Bernard and Sarah Bernhardt) and his exquisitely detailed female figures. Some of his sculptures adorn prestigious monuments, notably the Paris City Hall and the Palais de Justice. Base dimensions: 10 x 10 cm. Weight: 5.6 kg.
