Charles Clément Bervic, Large Engraving Of A Portrait Of Louis XVI After Antoine Callet

Artist: Charles-clément Bervic
Full-length portrait of Louis XVI, depicted in three-quarter profile in his coronation regalia.
Louis XVI wears his long royal ermine-fur cloak adorned with fleurs-de-lis; in his right hand he holds the scepter, the hand of justice, and the crown, and he wears the sword at his belt (royal insignia, Regalia).
Inscribed with the words “Louis XVI, King of the French, Restorer of Liberty, presented to the King and the National Assembly”
Framed engraving under glass (antique glass) in an early 19th-century frame, created by Charles Clément Bervic (1756–1822), based on the famous painting by Antoine François Callet, known as Antoine Callet (1741–1823).
This engraving is considered one of Bervic’s masterpieces; a copy was notably presented to George Washington in 1791.
Works by Bervic are in the collections of the Louvre Museum, such as, for example, "The Abduction of Dejanira" (after Le Guide) and "The Portrait of Gabriel Senac de Meilhan" (after Duplessis).
