A beautiful bust depicting Mahatma Gandhi, sculpted in glazed terracotta and signed by the French sculptor Raymond Raffour (1901–1988).
The rendering of the features (thick round glasses, bald head, draped posture, and meditative expression) is characteristic of depictions of Gandhi from the mid-20th century.
The piece features a monochromatic light-colored (ivory/cream) glazed finish with a glossy sheen.
The signature “RAFFOUR” is incised directly into the clay at the base of the bust.
