A very beautiful Provençal mirror with a richly carved and gilded wooden frame, dating from the Louis XV period, featuring an exceptional rocaille design of great ornamental richness. The frame is adorned with shells, volutes, foliage, and floral motifs carved in deep relief. The particularly elaborate pediment is composed of a profusion of flowers, foliage, and rocaille motifs, lending the piece a sense of movement and great elegance. The glazing beads, painted green, highlight the perimeter of the mirror and provide a refined contrast to the original gilding. This polychromatic finish, preserved in its original state, contributes significantly to the mirror’s unique character. The original mercury glass has been preserved, along with its subtle shades, irregularities, and slight natural discolorations characteristic of antique mercury glass. The preservation of the original mirror pane along with its frame is a particularly sought-after feature. The antique gilding displays a beautiful patina and natural wear that allow one to appreciate the richness of the carved details. On the reverse, the mirror retains its original parquet inlay beneath its original protective paper, as well as traces of hand-carved woodwork. The piece is presented in its original condition, without attempting to erase the signs of age that are part of its authenticity and character.Height: 78 cm
Width: 49 cm A rare and elegant example of the Provençal Rocaille tradition, remarkable both for the richness of its carving and for the preservation of its original elements—frame, gilding, painted glazing beads, and mercury glass.
