Court Painter to the House of Savoy
Versatile in every genre of painting, he devoted himself to his artistic career, favoring decorative art, in which he achieved great success. Another field he explored was that of restoration; following his work at the Royal Palace in Turin, in 1858 he was appointed by King Victor Emmanuel II as painter and restorer of the royal palaces. He died in 1909. In 1884, he was awarded the gold medal at the National Exhibition in Turin. The large canvas that dominates the Grand Staircase of Palazzo Cacherano di Bricherasio was painted the previous year and commissioned by Teresa Massel di Caserana, the widow of Luigi Cacherano di Briccherasio. “The painting depicts the death of the young Giorgio III di Cacherano di Envie, which occurred during the Battle of Castelvecchio d’Albenga
