Napoleon III Centerpiece In Gilded Bronze, Onyx, And Engraved Crystal – 19th Century

A striking centerpiece or single-flower vase from the Napoleon III period, circa 1860–1880, combining gilded bronze, onyx-marble, and engraved crystal.

The oval-shaped base consists of a large onyx slab in shades of creamy white and honey, set within a rich gilt-bronze frame. The border, entirely openwork, features an abundant decoration of rocaille motifs, scrolls, and foliage in the Louis XV style.

The neck of the soliflore is particularly spectacular: it is shaped like a fantastic dolphin, emerging from an abundant decor of large leaves, flowers, and plant motifs modeled in high relief. This decorative style, combining rocaille and naturalistic elements, is characteristic of Parisian works from the second half of the 19th century.

The ensemble features a tall, clear crystal cone with a flared rim, delicately engraved with a botanical design composed of tall flowering stems and radiating motifs. The crystal rests on a baluster element, also made of crystal, which is itself set within a finely chased gilded bronze mount.

A striking piece, notable for its size, the richness of its setting, and the particularly decorative combination of gilded bronze, onyx, and crystal.
