Jules Rosuero (1921–?) - The Farewell Waltz

Oil on canvas. Original painting. Hand-signed.

In the ashen twilight of a devastated room in Europe in 1946, a woman’s pale fingers brushed the yellowed ivory of an old Bechstein piano, whose soundboard still held the muffled echo of a vanished world. Chopin’s melancholic notes unfolded into a slow, broken waltz, a 3/4 time signature that underscored the desolation of the rubble and the unbearable weight of absence; each chord suspended in the cold air seemed like a prolonged farewell, a tearless lament in which the sound—worn down by time and the dust of war—faded resignedly before reaching the walls covered in pink wallpaper.
