Louis XVI-style Mahogany Day Table
A desk with a cylindrical base and a two-tiered shelf unit on top.
There are two drawers on the left and right tiers, and a beveled mirror in the center.
Once the cylinder is opened, there are three drawers and three storage compartments just above it. This also provides access to a green felt writing surface that slides out to extend beyond the cabinet.
A large lockable drawer is located beneath the writing tablet.
This refined piece is constructed of an oak frame, mahogany, and mahogany veneer.
The tiers are adorned with bronze moldings. The piece is decorated with brass trim around the edges and in the fluting, as well as bronze handles and lock plates.
The drawers and the cylinder are decorated with a Martin varnish, featuring floral motifs on the drawers and a romantic scene on the cylinder.
Both locks are in perfect working order and come with their keys.
The piece is in very good overall condition; there are a few very fine chips in the Martin varnish—barely visible without close inspection—and an ink stain in the right-hand drawer inside the cylinder.
20th-century French craftsmanship, circa 1930–1940.
