Provençal Bread Basket
A Provençal bread chest made of walnut, opening with a door on the front and resting on four tapered legs.
The upper section is topped with a cornice known as a “gendarme’s hat.”
The front and sides, which are openwork, are adorned with a series of spindle-turned slats.
The lower section and the shelf are also openwork with slats.
Finally, the back is made of three panels of fir.
The back of the bread bin is equipped with two hooks for hanging it.
The door has a lock that can be secured with a key; the lock is in working order. Note that the key is slightly bent, and the door is slightly misaligned, though this does not prevent it from closing.
In good overall condition; note that the patina has “faded” on the right side and that the cornice has a bit of “play” on the left side.
French craftsmanship from the late 19th century.
