Beautiful bronze sculpture titled “Nymph,” by E. Laurent, 19th century.
This is a stunning original antique bronze sculpture by Eugène Laurent, titled “Psyche,” cast in bronze and featuring only a beautiful patina on the surface. She is depicted as a young girl kneeling, her dress flowing down her knees and legs, forming crisp and intricate folds. Her arms are crossed over her bent knee. An oil lamp hangs from her hand, which her perfectly rendered and highly detailed fingers hold effortlessly.
Her hair is pulled back and pinned up, encircled by a fine net. Her name is engraved in Greek on the front.
Signed by Eugène Laurent (1832–1898) and marked with a Paris foundry hallmark.
