Antique Window-to-window Console Table, Restored In The Louis XIV Style, Circa 1830

Artist: Anonyme
This exquisite console table, designed to fit between two windows, is a remarkable example of early 19th-century French decorative arts, dating from around 1830.
Designed during the Restoration or the July Monarchy, it illustrates the resurgence of the great historical styles and the rediscovery of the splendor of the Grand Siècle.
The piece features a richly carved wall-mounted structure, designed to adorn the wall space between two windows in a ceremonial parlor.
Its dynamic frieze features a high-relief decoration rigorously centered on an imposing trophy of crossed weapons and instruments.
This central iconographic motif is flanked by plant garlands, acanthus scrolls, and a textured grid pattern reminiscent of 18th-century basketwork backgrounds.
The console table is distinguished by its unique base, consisting of two powerful, curved legs shaped like inverted consoles.
These arched legs are adorned with large, spiraling volutes, deep fluting, and stylized, asymmetrical shell motifs at the top.
The legs converge elegantly toward a low central crossbar, topped by a superb acanthus leaf finial that flares out toward the floor.
The carved wood is enhanced by its original gold leaf gilding, whose patina highlights the reliefs and creates subtle plays of light and shadow.
The piece is topped with its precious original Aleppo breccia marble top, cut to fit the contours of the wooden structure.
This rare marble, historically quarried in Provence, is characterized by polychromatic limestone fragments in shades of gray, pink, ochre, and brown, embedded in an olive-yellow matrix.
In terms of design, the Louis XIV style applied here reflects the work of draftsmen and ornamentalists from the Louis-Philippe and Restoration periods.
The creators of this model drew inspiration from the drawings of famous designers of the Ancien Régime, such as Jean Bérain and Jules Hardouin-Mansart, while incorporating the bourgeois opulence of the 1830s.
Although unmarked, the technical execution of the carving suggests the hand of a master cabinetmaker from the Parisian workshops, specializing in Neo-Baroque-style furniture.
This transitional piece combines the sculptural power of French classicism with the structural robustness sought after by the elite of the early 19th century. Technical Specifications:
