Max Le Verrier, “mowgli And Bagheera,” Art Deco Sculpture, Circa 1930
Max Le Verrier – “Mowgli and Bagheera” – Art Deco sculpture, ca. 1930
A beautiful and significant Art Deco sculpture by Max Le Verrier (1891–1973) depicting Mowgli accompanied by the panther Bagheera, inspired by the world of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
The young man, kneeling, rests one hand on the panther while his outstretched arm points toward the horizon. This dynamic composition, combining a human figure with an animal subject, is characteristic of the Art Deco aesthetic of the 1930s.
Crafted from art metal with a green patina, the sculpture rests on an elegant, architecturally designed base made of beige reconstituted stone with geometric lines.
Signed “M. Le Verrier” in relief on the base.
Max Le Verrier, a leading figure in French decorative sculpture between the two world wars, won a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925. His sculptures, recognizable in particular by their stylized lines and famous green patinas, are among the iconic creations of French Art Deco.
A model no longer in production.
In good overall condition, with a beautiful original patina showing a few slight signs of age.
