Walnut Dining Table
Walnut dining table 19th century, with a drawer along the base; the tabletop features marquetry depicting the IHS symbol—representing Jesus, the Man, the Savior, or Jesus Christ (Jesus Christ, Savior of Mankind)—or the Jesuit coat of arms. In 1541, Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, gradually adopted this symbol as the coat of arms of the Jesuits. He added at the bottom the image of the three nails that pierced Christ on the cross.
