Santino Bianchi. Stabio, November 1, 1848 (the parish archives contain a record of Santino’s baptism, which took place on November 1, 1848. His parents were Venero Bianchi and Ursula Perucchi); Turin, February 28, 1923. At the age of eleven, he moved to Genoa with his father, who placed him in a marble worker’s workshop so he could learn the trade. After traveling through several Italian cities, he settled in Turin in 1870, where he continued his studies at the Accademia Albertina under the guidance of Odoardo Tabacchi. He created the monument to “Vittorio Emanuele II” (1884) in Asti and is also credited with the monument depicting the same subject in Vercelli. In Turin, he exhibited at the Promotrice delle Belle Arti in 1876 and at the Circolo degli Artisti in 1891.
Excerpt from the Dictionary of Italian Sculptors of the Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries. Contribution by Alfonso Panzetta.
