François Van Severdonck, 1809–1889, was a Belgian painter of landscapes, genre scenes, and, above all, animals, most often in small formats. He studied under Henri de Coene and Eugène Verboeckhoven at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1836 to 1843. There, he received the First Accessit in 1840. He was the brother of the painter Joseph Van Severdonck (1819–1905). He made his debut at the 1842 Brussels Salon, where he exhibited regularly, as well as in Antwerp, Ghent, and Liège; later, he exhibited in Paris starting in 1851 and in the Netherlands. He established his studio in Schaerbeek, where he died in 1889. He is often mistakenly identified as François VanDeverdonck (1848–1875), who did not exist! Works are held in museums in Dunkirk, Rouen, Sète, Manchester, and Bucharest. The artist is listed in the Bénézit (with a sample signature), the Arto, and the Piron. Listed on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
