Pair Of Lacquered And Gilded Armchairs From The Mid-19th Century
An elegant pair of lacquered and gilded armchairs from the mid-19th century, of Italian origin. The armchairs are distinguished by their sinuous and soft lines, typical of Rococo design, which was revived and adapted in the mid-19th century, particularly during the Louis-Philippe period, as is the case with this pair of armchairs. The frame is entirely curved, with no right angles; the four legs feature the classic saber or cabriole shape, slightly arched outward and finished at the bottom with small scroll-shaped feet. The armrests are openwork, slightly set back from the seat line, and feature a small padded insert for added comfort. The armchairs are finished with an ivory-white or cream lacquer, with the reliefs and moldings highlighted by gold leaf gilding. The upper part of the backrest and the central section of the band beneath the seat are embellished with floral and foliage carvings, a typical ornamental decoration of the period. The armchairs are completely original and still retain their patina; while the upholstery has certainly been reupholstered over time, it remains in excellent condition.
