Pair Of 18th-century Winged Angel Wall Sconces
Carved from a polychrome and gilded softwood cartouche, featuring one cherub’s head turned to the right and the other to the left. Based on an ornamental cartouche from a late 18th-century Baroque-style altarpiece, a pair of wooden arms was added in the 19th century to transform this religious object into a pair of secular wall sconces. Polychrome paint on the faces; some areas where the paint has chipped away; the wings are rendered in sgraffito; the cartouche is gilded. Some traces of wood-boring insect damage have been treated. Spanish work.
