Jean Gerbino (1876–1966) Vallauris – Vase Made Of Mosaic Clay With A Floral Design, Circa 1950
Ceramic vase by Jean Gerbino in Vallauris, crafted from polychrome mosaic clay.
Ovoid shape with a tapered neck ending in a wide, rounded rim. The body features a stylized floral design composed of geometric and plant motifs in shades of green, blue, beige, brown, black, and white. The neck and upper section are also crafted using a mosaic of colored clays.
Gerbino’s characteristic technique involves creating the design directly in the clay, using clays of different colors that are assembled and worked before firing.
Gerbino / Vallauris marks on the base, visible in the photographs.
