Bronze Christ, Probably 17th Century – Ancient Corpus Christi

A beautiful antique bronze Christ, depicted on the cross with his arms spread wide, his head bowed, and his legs slightly bent. The modeling of the body, the rendering of the face, the hair, and the perizonium suggest a European work from the late 16th or first half of the 17th century, likely dating to around 1600–1650.

The piece is made of bronze or a copper alloy, of good density, with an antique patina and signs of wear consistent with its age. The hands and feet feature holes intended for attachment to a cross.

The casting is quite dynamic, with details still clearly visible on the face, hair, and drapery. The back has a rougher surface, typical of an element intended to be attached to a cross.
