Liturgical Pouch In Crimson Velvet Embroidered With The Paschal Lamb – 19th Century, Collection, Embroidery
A rare liturgical pouch, likely used for collecting offerings, made of crimson silk velvet and richly adorned with embroidery featuring gold metallic threads, silk threads, and small beads.
The main panel features, at its center, a remarkable depiction of the Mystical Lamb—Agnus Dei—reclining on the Book of the Seven Seals and surrounded by a radiant halo. This iconography, drawn from the Book of Revelation, is one of the great symbols of Christ as the sacrificial and victorious Lamb.
The central motif is surrounded by an elegant wreath of leafy scrollwork and flowers embroidered in gold and multicolored threads, accented with small pearls.
The purse features long sliding cords made of trimmings at the top, allowing it to be opened and closed.
