Bronze Sculpture – Cowboy On Horseback, Signed Bouret Delabrièrre – 19th Century

A large bronze sculpture with a brown patina depicting a cowboy on horseback. The rider, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, holds his rifle and the reins of his horse, while the horse is depicted walking at a steady pace, in a particularly well-balanced composition.
The treatment of the model demonstrates a remarkable attention to detail: the rider’s facial features, clothing, boots, the horse’s tack, mane, and the movement of its tail are rendered with great precision. The naturalistic setting, featuring rocks and vegetation, enhances the picturesque and narrative character of the composition.

The sculpture bears the signature “Bouret Delabrièrre.”

Eutrope Bouret (1833–1906) was a French sculptor of the second half of the 19th century. A student of the sculptor Buhot, he began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1875, where he regularly presented his works until the early 20th century. His body of work includes figures, historical and mythological subjects, as well as numerous bronze compositions.

Paul-Édouard Delabrièrre (1829–1912) also belongs to the great tradition of 19th-century French sculpture. He is particularly renowned for his animal sculptures, characterized by anatomical precision, a keen observation of movement, and great finesse in the treatment of details. His bronzes are highly sought after today for the quality of their modeling and their naturalistic style.

With its original subject matter, substantial dimensions, and high-quality craftsmanship, this work is a decorative bronze with a striking presence, representative of the late 19th-century French sculptural taste for equestrian compositions and character-driven subjects.
