This sculpture by Georges Omerth is of fine cast quality. He was active from 1895 until his death in 1925. Virtually nothing is known about this sculptor—not even his nationality—but his bronzes—many of which are statuettes of children—appear in fairly large numbers on the market. They are very often accompanied by ivory parts and clearly date from the early 20th century. However, the subjects are always full of charm and of good quality.
He was a student of Carrier-Belleuse and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. A large number of his works survive, including figures and statuettes of children, men, and women in classical, Jugendstil, and Art Deco styles, most of which were produced for the art publisher and foundry owner Edmond Etling
