A Devotional Statue Carved From Wood, Depicting The Virgin With The Sorrowful And Immaculate Heart

Scarved wooden devotional statue, depicting the Virgin with the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, displayed in an architectural niche also made of wood.

The Virgin is depicted standing, dressed in a long gown and a cloak falling in soft folds.

With her right hand, she points to her heart, which rests on her chest.

The carving, deliberately expressive, retains a beautiful antique patina with gilded highlights.

The statue is placed beneath a semicircular arch, supported by two small columns and surmounted by a cross.

The architecture is accented with gilded elements that highlight the capitals, the arch, and the base.

The back of the niche was added later.

On the pedestal, an engraved brass plaque bears the inscription:

“Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, pray for us”.

The reverse side allows one to appreciate the sculpture in the round of the figure as well as the antique style of the entire piece.

A striking object of popular devotion, created at the end of the 18th century.
