Louis XVI-style Wicker Sofa In Carved Wood, Coral-red Velvet – 19th Century
An elegant Louis XVI-style wicker sofa, likely from the second half of the 19th century, in the Napoleon III style.
The wooden frame is particularly richly carved: a garland of flowers and foliage crowns the backrest, a ribbon is tied in the center, and there are moldings and plant motifs. The armrests end in remarkable scrolls decorated with acanthus leaves, a motif repeated on the side posts.
The waistband is adorned with carved friezes and decorative blocks featuring plant motifs. It rests on four tapered, fluted legs, embellished with carved motifs characteristic of the Louis XVI neoclassical style.
The entire piece is upholstered in coral-red/orange velvet, accented with matching braid. The backrest and seat have a striking decorative presence and lend this piece a particularly elegant appearance.
In very good overall condition, with a sound and stable structure. High-quality carving and a lovely patina on the wood. The fabric retains its shape well.
A particularly decorative living room piece that would also be at home in a bedroom, entryway, or a classic-style interior.
