Japanese Box In Gilded Lacquer With Floral Decoration – Japan, Late 19th Century
A beautiful rectangular Japanese lacquered wooden box with a slightly domed lid and rounded corners.
The surface features a remarkable golden-brown finish with a speckled effect, enhanced by an elegant golden floral and foliage design. The lid is adorned with stylized foliage compositions as well as a central geometric motif.
The decoration continues on the sides of the box with delicate scrollwork and gilded plant motifs. The front is adorned with a lovely gilded metal clasp, finely engraved with foliage.
The interior also features a magnificent original lacquer finish.
A refined decorative object, characteristic of the Japanese taste for lacquer boxes.
