Founded in 1821 by Thomas Hall, owner of the Montereau and Pont-aux-Choux factories, the Gien Pottery was born out of a desire to introduce English fine earthenware techniques to France. Housed in the former Minimes convent, it quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious French manufacturers.
