Louis-joseph Clert: "rare Taste" Wine Bottle In Solid Silver, 128.4 G, Luçon 1782–84

Rare solid silver wine decanter with a plain, flat design, featuring handles with stylized facing serpents. Hallmarks (a "P" for charge and a head in profile for discharge, on the body and handle) from the jurisdiction of POITIERS 1781–89, Common House Mark for LUÇON 1782–84 (an "L" surmounted by the crowned date letter "J") and the hallmark of Master Goldsmith Louis-Joseph CLERT, who was licensed in 1773 to practice in Saint-Maixent and moved his business to Luçon in 1774. A rare find—a Luçon wine bottle in good condition and remarkably hallmarked, with a small “straw mark” at the base of the handle (which the silversmith who cleaned it chose to leave as it is original). For the discerning collector...
