Statuettecarved from ivory depicting a reclining nude young woman, known as "female physician"*, from China, dating to the Qing Dynasty, 19th century.

This statuette is in good condition and features superb carving quality.

Please note: a few cracks and stains on the figure, along with slight scratches and signs of age; see photos.

Carved ivory specimen, predating July 1, 1947, and therefore compliant with EC Regulation 338/97 of December 9, 1996 Art. 2-Wmc.

* The female doctor is an ivory or bone statuette that allowedthe patient to show the therapist the location of her discomfort or pain. Chinese doctors could not ask their patients to undress—and certainly not if the patient was a woman—hence the usefulness of these figurines. Very practical, they allowed the servant to come in place of her mistress to point out and describe the ailments from which she was suffering.
