Crafted ingilded and patinated bronze, this charming pair of smallproportions features, on a molded circular base set with a generous laurel wreathand ribboned bands and adorned at its center with twisted channels,a shaft in the shape of a half-column with dark fluting.As if emerging from a canopy of acanthus leaves arranged in acorolla, the base encases a bowl adorned with a string of pearls.
Designed asa pair, these candlesticks in the elegant Louis XVI style are each harmoniouslyflanked by graceful childlike figureswith sweet and charming chubby faces and plump, nude forms. Carved inthe round, a little boy and a little girl—one standing alertly, the otherkneeling lightly—envelop thebody of the candlestick with one arm in a suspended gesture.
