Born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1917, Soteras enlisted in the Republican Army in 1936 and served until 1939. He settled in France, where in 1959 he joined the Catalan painters’ group Art Nostre, alongside Clavé, Grau Sala, Salès, and others. In addition to being a painter, he was also an illustrator, notably for: Federico García Lorca’s *Le Romancero Gitano* in 1947, Dante’s *Inferno* in 1952, and Lautréamont’s *Les chants de Maldoror* in 1953.
