Louis XV-era Mahogany Backgammon Table – 18th Century

An elegant rectangular game table made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, resting on four curved legs characteristic of the Louis XV style.

The ornate apron is adorned with rich carved decorations featuring stylized shells, flowers, and foliage. The legs, accented with foliage carvings at the top, end in small scrolls.

This table features an ingenious removable and reversible tabletop. One side is decorated with a checkerboard inlay of light and dark wood, designed for playing chess or checkers. The other side, more understated, is adorned with a central panel of mahogany veneer framed by light-wood fillets, allowing the piece to be used as a small side table.

Removing the tabletop reveals a complete backgammon set, consisting of two symmetrical compartments inlaid with long, alternating strips of light and dark wood. The perimeter is punctuated with inlaid circular markers used for keeping score. Two rectangular compartments, also accented with inlaid fillets, are located in the center of each section.

Two small side drawers, concealed within the apron and carved in harmony with the overall design, were used to store the game pieces, dice, and accessories; one drawer pull is missing.

French work from the Louis XV period, 18th century.

Some signs of wear, minor marks, and old restorations consistent with the piece’s age.

Delivery in a wooden crate by carrier (bulky package) to the ground floor in front of your home: 250 euros in France, 600 euros in the EU, and 1,500 euros for the rest of the world.
