She stands holding a rifle in her right hand and, in her left hand, a scroll and olive branches bearing the dates of the revolutions of 1789 and 1830. She steps on a broken chain, with a pedestal behind her on which rests a level marked "Liberte, Fraternite."
The main face is engraved "LIBERTE, LIBERTE CHERIE, COMBATS AVEC TES DEFENSEURS ”
Signed on the tip “DAVID D’ANGERS 1840”
A rare signed and dated example in perfect original condition.

Pierre-Jean David d’Angers 1788 – 1856
Sculptor and engraver, he sculpted the ornamentation of the Arc de Triomphe, the Carrousel, and the frieze of the Louvre Palace.
He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1811 and was commissioned to create numerous monuments, statues, busts, etc., including the famous pediment of the Panthéon in Paris in 1837.
