Circa 1700. Court portrait of King Edward VI, English style, oil on canvas. Excellent quality and condition. Antique portrait of Edward VI in court attire. Excellent quality and condition, presented in a beautiful gilded frame.
Inscription on the reverse: “EDWARD VI KING / OF ENGLAND born October 12 / 1537 † July 6, 1553 / This painting comes from / Wm. Smithsby Esq. Keeper / of Hampton Court († 1660) / by Barker to Nuttall / of Tittour, as an inheritance.” A wax seal is affixed to the stretcher (on the reverse). Dimensions: 52.1 x 42.7 cm.
Provenance: Private collection, Oxfordshire. Roy Precious - Antiques and Fine Art, Wiltshire. Acquired by its current owner (a renowned British private collection) in 2015.
