Impressive 18th-Century Carved Oak Louis XV Two-Part Display Cabinet

An outstanding example of Norman craftsmanship, this impressive French two-part display cabinet was crafted from solid oak circa 1780 and perfectly captures the elegant provincial interpretation of the Louis XV style.
The upper display cabinet is crowned with a beautifully shaped bonnet, finely carved with scroll motifs and a richly detailed central crest featuring floral bouquets in a woven basket. Two glazed doors with shaped moldings and intricate carvings—including rare Masonic motifs—open to reveal a beautiful tapestry-lined interior with two shelves, ideal for displaying faience, porcelain, glassware, or treasured collections. Delicate carved floral garlands and foliate motifs adorn the entire front, with every edge carved at the top and bottom, while the original brass escutcheons and hardware—along with the original locks and working keys—add authenticity and charm.
The lower cabinet features two paneled doors framed by deeply molded surrounds and accented with finely carved floral decoration, enclosing a generously sized storage compartment. A shaped apron adds further individuality and grace. The cabinet stands on elegant Louis XV feet and retains wonderfully balanced proportions that offer both visual lightness and practical functionality. The sides are attractively paneled, and both the upper and lower sections retain their original oak backboards.
Throughout, the oak displays beautiful grain patterns and a warm honey-colored patina developed over centuries of use. Rich hand-carved detailing, original character marks, and gentle wear consistent with its age all contribute to the authenticity and appeal of this important Normandy two-body sideboard.
A striking and highly decorative statement piece, ideal for a refined dining room, kitchen, library, or country house interior.
