A rare bell-shaped krater—so named because of its shape—featuring a double row of bas-relief friezes depicting finely detailed scenes from ancient Greek life. Two small horizontal handles are positioned at the top of the vase.

Krater were used to mix wine and water.

This krater is a replica from the 1950s of an ancient piece. It is therefore a piece produced in the spirit of the Grand Tour, though dating from after that period.

The krater is entirely black. Only the relief of the figures and objects is slightly worn, revealing the red of the terracotta. The wear on the rim and interior is also intentional. However, there has also been a recent restoration: part of the foot has been reattached (see photo).

A beautiful, unusual, and likely rare piece.
