Ebonized Wood Mirror with Guilloché Frame – 17th century

A rare and elegant 17th-century mirror, crafted from ebonized wood with a striking paneled frame, featuring refined carvings of undulating and geometric motifs typical of 17th-century Italian craftsmanship.

The structure, with its austere, architectural lines, is embellished by a double, tapering molding that leads to the central mirror, lending depth and a sense of compositional balance.

The ebonized finish, now enhanced by a natural patina of age, highlights the austere and prestigious character of the piece.

The mirror retains its antique mercury glass, characterized by widespread oxidation and the typical surface alterations that attest to its age and authenticity, lending it a unique and irreplaceable charm.

An object of great historical and decorative value, ideal for inclusion in settings furnished with period furniture, antique collections, or historic residences.

Condition: in good condition relative to its age. The frame shows normal signs of aging, slight wear, and minor imperfections consistent with over three centuries of history.

The mercury-coated glass exhibits the characteristic oxidation and clouding typical of antique mirrors.

We recommend carefully reviewing the photographs, which are an integral part of the description.

Materials: ebonized wood and mercury mirror.

Period: 17th century.

Dimensions: 49.5 x 45 cm – mirror surface 22.5 x 18 cm – frame 25 x 19.7 cm

A fine example of 17th-century Italian cabinetmaking, this mirror is a piece of considerable antiquarian interest, capable of enhancing any room with the authentic charm of the past and the timeless elegance of 17th-century craftsmanship.
