In the mid-20th century, Accolay was the setting for a true revolution in ceramics. Four former students of Alexandre Kostanda settled in the small village in the Yonne region in the mid-1940s, and many potters followed their example. For some forty years, the work of the potters of Accolay was impressive, original, and daring, characterized by thick, often speckled glazes and boundless creativity.
