He arrived in Indochina at the very beginning of the 20th century, and by 1910 he was serving as a special envoy to the Governor-General.As an attaché at the French School of the Far East, he studied vernacular art and published a number of papers, including the seminal work *Les Arts décoratifs au Tonkin* in 1922. There, he developed a full-fledged career as a painter and wood engraver.
A traveling painter, he returned to France in the 1920s, where he exhibited his landscapes of Lorraine and the Midi, as well as his memories of the Far East, at various art salons (Nancy, Paris, etc.).
In 1922, he received the Grand Prize at the Colonial Exhibition in Marseille.
Exempt from competition at the 1925 Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition, he collaborated with the architect of the Indochina Pavilion.
Large oil on canvas depicting a Catalan village, Corneilla de Conflan, titled and dated 1929 on the reverse by the artist.
The work has been professionally cleaned and restored, and is framed in a brown shadow box.
