Compleat History Of The Recent War In The Netherlands, 1713 By Thomas Brodrick In Two Volumes

Artist: Thomas Brodrick
This is a detailed account of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) during the reign of Queen Anne of Great Britain.  It relates the military campaigns year by year.  It features engraved maps and plans of major battles and sieges (such as the Battle of Nagstadt / Blenheim, the Battle of Ramillies, the Siege of Menin).  It ends with a summary of the Peace Treaty of Utrecht (1713).  The main interest of this book lies in its superb engraved maps, (bearing the arms of nobles and officers), 15 in all.  Thomas Brodrick (1654–1730) was an Anglo-Irish politician and author/historian of the modern period.  Born in County Cork, Ireland, he came from a prominent Anglo-Irish Protestant family (his brother Alan Brodrick became 1st Viscount Midleton).  As a former army auditor and close to the Whig party, Brodrick had privileged access to official documents and military details of the time. His book chronicled year by year the military campaigns led by the Duke of Marlborough, sieges and battles in Europe, while concluding on the peace treaty of Utrecht. He had dedicated it to the Bishop of London, John Robinson, the first British plenipotentiary during the peace negotiations. A detached cover, some rubbing on the covers but fresh and complete engravings. Two volumes
