Reliquary Ex Ligno Sanctae Crucis with his authentic Episcopal Statue -Rome -1802
Reliquary of the Holy Cross (Ex Ligno Sanctae Crucis D.N.J.C.), accompanied by his authentic dated from Rome, 9 February 1802. The document is signed in the name of F. Basilius Tomaggian, a conventual Franciscan, titular archbishop of Dyrrhachium (Durazzo), ecclesiastical authority authorized to issue certificates of authenticity for relics.
The authentic one certifies that the relic has been recognized as compliant, placed in a metal theca under glass, closed by a red silk thread and sealed with a red wax seal, in accordance with the canonical usages of the time. The small oval theca contains a cross-shaped plot identified as Ex Ligno Sanctae Crucis.
The document printed on laid paper is decorated with ecclesiastical arms and has its original handwritten signature. The whole is preserved in a state consistent with its age: used folds, some foxing and traces of moisture, without altering readability or historical interest.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
